Are you lucky enough to be attending a wedding at Hilltop Barn? If so it may be worthwhile having a look through the content below…
“How do we get to Hilltop Barn?”
Hilltop Barn is nestled on the hillside above Higher Poynton, offering beautiful views over the Cheshire plain and Manchester Skyline. The barn is located on a working farm which backs onto National Trust property, Lyme Park.
The easiest method to get to Hilltop Barn is by car, although we encourage guests to car pool where possible. There is limited parking and a bumpy, single track road leads up to the barn making passing other vehicles challenging.
Our postcode (SK12 1TH) will take you to the bottom of the hill where you will find our local pub, The Boars Head. From there you should cross the disused railway and drive over the canal. Continue up the bumpy stretch of farm track and pass over the cattle grid. When the road forks, take the left turn sign posted Hilltop Cottage, Bungalow and Farm. Drive past Hilltop Cottage whereby you should start to see bunting on the skyline. Once you have reached the top, turn round to the left in front of the barn and park within the field.
For those of you that don’t have a car or would prefer to use public transport, there are a variety of railway stations within a short taxi ride. Middlewood, Poynton and Hazel Grove have regular local services while national services run to Stockport, Macclesfield and Wilmslow.
“Is there parking?”
If you wish to drive to Hilltop Barn, we have a dedicated field a short distance from the barn. There is enough car parking for approximately 50 cars, which should be more than adequate.
If you have a delicate car, not capable of navigating the bumps, there is an abundance of car parking at the bottom of the hill. You can either park on the road or within the pay and display car park, Nelson Pit.
If you are wanting to have a tipple, you are more than welcome to leave your car overnight and catch a cab home. All we ask is that you collect your car promptly the next morning. Please be aware that by using this tactic you run the risk of getting roped in to help with the big clean up!
“What taxi services are there?”
Despite being tucked away, there are a host of local taxi services that venture up to the barn. Pre-booking is recommended as the companies fill up fast particularly on Friday and Saturday night. If you want to stay till the very last dance the music at Hilltop stops at 12am. Preferably non-camping guests are to have left the premises by 12:30 to reduce disturbance to our neighbours.

“What are the camping arangements?”
We have an abundance of space at Hilltop and are happy for our guests to camp free of charge in one of our fields. As we’re not a specialist campsite we can only provide the bare essentials for a one-night stay; toilet facilities, cold & hot water and electricity.
Weddings tend to have a packed schedule, not necessarily allowing time to battle with tent pegs. To help make the day run as smooth as possible, we are more than happy to let people set up camp the night before. If this is something you would like to do, please get in touch with the happy couple or ourselves to ensure somebody is able to show you around.
If you are lucky enough to own a house on wheels, we can certainly accommodate you to! We can’t guarantee an electrical connection but we will try our best.
“What local accommodation is there?”
If camping isn’t your cup of tea, there are plenty of places to stay nearby. Below are a series of BnBs/hotels to suit all budgets. To help make things as affordable as possible, we have negotiated an agreed rate at places marked with an asterisk.

“What should we bring?”
When you are planning what to bring, consider the following:
If you planning to wear your best stilettos it may be worth bringing a more practical pair to navigate the bumpier paths around the farm.
If you feel the cold, we would recommend bringing an extra layer. Although the barn has a large fireplace and is relatively air tight, it is largely unheated and can get a little chilly once the sun sets. That being said, we usually find a flowing bar, good music and a dance floor are sufficient at keeping the goose bumps away!
There is a bar at the Hilltop Barn so please don’t bring any alcohol and put the wedding couple in an awkward situation of having to pay corkage.
